  • Dawn of the Undead in 2018

    Hello all,

DotU has come a long way since i joined back in early MoP. The game was different. We still had the raid lockout to deal with and raid sizes were fixed to either 10 or 25 players. Back then we ran two raid teams for a while, however the one with the slower progress faded out during the first tier of Mists of Pandaria, and we were back with one 10 man team.

Over the course of the patches and expansions the core rules of raiding changed. Normal and heroic raids difficulty became flexible, meaning we could bring anywhere between 10 and 30 players, and Mythic difficulty got introduced that required a fixed size. But that was no problem since our progress journey through normal and heroic took months and Mythic raiding seemed far off.
This trend continued until near the end of Tomb of Sargeras, and especially Antorus, the Burning Throne. DotU has grown so far, our raid roster is bigger and stronger than ever and we got through the heroic content in no time.
So the natural line of raid progression is Mythic.

We have kept the raid schedule for 2 nights of mythic and heroic for Sundays, but it's starting to bring new problems. We tried to fill the remaining spots with socials to let them see the content aswell and get their Ahead of the Curve achievement. However sometimes we might've brought too many and had too many wipes. Just because we could bring 30, does that mean we should?

As more and more raiders have everything they need from heroic Antorus, the interest in running it is fading, further limiting how well the Sunday group will perform.
So after a lot of debate on the officer team, and with feedback from a handful of randomly selected raiders, we'll start a transition period over the next 2-3 weeks of phasing out heroic Sunday and add another night of mythic raiding. During the transition period we'll take more optimized groups, aiming for clearing upper heroic in about an hour, leaving the rest of the night for mythic.

But what does this mean for the socials?
About two months ago we started running normal Antorus on Saturdays, sometimes with lower heroic added to the mix. Varied results came out of that. We don't intent on stopping Saturday raids, but we hope that team will evolve into being able to run heroic. Possibly backed up by mythic raiders or their alts. And no this doesn't mean we'll use the raid to leech gear for our alts. Saturday should remain on personal loot.
As far as the transition period goes. In order to secure the Argus kill for the trinket upgrades etc. We'd recommend that you bring your main for the Saturday since a spot for the heroic kill is not a guarantee.

We received suggestions for forming another raiding team as well that could run alongside the mythic raids. This also brings pros and cons, but is a discussion best saved for another thread.

We've already made quite a foothold in Mythic Antorus, but we believe we can make a far bigger one.

On behalf of the officer team

Only suggestion i have for this is running Argus quick for upgrades and chance for trinkets/upgrades before. I dont know about chances being less or same on heroic/normal but it would help if we could do that before trying to push for mythics to help with dps etc.
Maybe this is already the plan and if not this is a suggestion.

If its same chance on normal vs heroic for argus trinkets ill just pug normal before raids if its a problem.

Yeah the chance is the same on Normal and Heroic and we already have a plan for weekly Argus, shouldn't need to pug it.

It's real nice to see Dotu still trying to balance the whole 'Progress vs Casual' mantra :)

    Good job Grazzy and officers!
