  • Graphics question
    « on: April 24, 2010, 08:51:26 PM »
    Heya,

while i play ok with my old trusty 8600GT, there are some fps drops and i'm hesitating to buy a new card... something under 100€, dunno.

Would i see a big improvement in wow? (i run it 1900x1200 with most textures on high, decent core duo CPU)

What would be the choices in nvidia / ati at that price range? and the power consumption?

    Thanks! :)

For around €100 you would get a ATI5670, which is a little better than what you have now, but not much. Nvidias cards are currently not a match € to performance rating.

But. for about €130 you can get hold of a ATI 5770 which is the same chip as Hruk is getting / got in his shiny new pc. Currently it's the best 'bang for buck' card out there in the sub <£250 market, you will notice a huge difference in performance.

At the same time you need to bare in mind that WoW is a terribly optimized game and even the most powerful gaming rig could have poo fps at times.

Power consumption should be around the same, if not less than your 8600, the 5000 ATI series are very good on that.

Lots of different models available, some pre-overclocked, custom coolers, some with a free game etc. I've heard good things about the Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X, good cooler, nice and quiet, but take your pick :).
